Breathwork with SHARM
This video presentation describes breathwork and explains how to use breathwork with SHARM. Let’s start with a short SHARM breathwork session. Breathe deeply, hold your breath for a few seconds, and slowly exhale. Now join the next demo clip and see if you feel a sense of increased calmness. In addition to increasing calmness, deep breathing can help restore mental and emotional balance, enabling us to handle emotionally stressful situations more effectively. Deep breathing can enable us to achieve deep relaxation, help us to control our thoughts, raise the oxygen level in our blood, and enhance our strength and willpower. Many breathwork practitioners believe in using breathwork to reach altered states of consciousness and attain positive mental, emotional and physical benefits.
Ancient Origins
For centuries, breathwork has been an essential part of Yoga and other traditional practices, such as Tai Chi and Chi Kung.
Modern practices
Today, numerous Western therapies and disciplines are based on the same breathwork principles.
Breathwork in SHARM sessions
SHARM includes a special built-in soundtrack for breathwork. You can use breathwork for stand-alone practice or as a preparation for deep relaxation.
In addition to the breathwork voice instructions, you can use other soundtracks in the background, such as music, brainwave entrainment or bilateral sound.
Breathing Cycle Length
In SHARM, you can set the length of each breath cycle. For example, a breathing cycle of 10 seconds will result in six breathing cycles per minute.
SHARM breathwork can gradually increase the breathing cycle length during the session.
Breathing Patterns
You can select a breathing pattern from the list of predefined breathing patterns. Each breathing pattern has its own unique qualities and applications, and each contains at least two parts: breathe-in and breathe-out.
After practicing the simple breathing patterns, you may want to continue to more advanced patterns, which include pausing or holding one's breath.
