SHARM Tutorial: Getting Started - Part 1
This SHARM tutorial explains how to create a simple session with Music, Nature and Suggestions segments. From the top menu, select “File” and then “Open”. Alternatively, you can press the “Open” button on the top toolbar. SHARM displays the different built-in session categories. Double-click on the “Creativity” folder. Select the “Innovative Thoughts” session and press the “Open” button. Press the “Play” button to play the session. To create a new session, press the “New” button on the top toolbar. Set the session length to three minutes. The numbers on the timeline change when you change the session length.
Music
To add music to your session, create a Music segment.
Click the left mouse button on the Music soundtrack, drag the mouse to the right and release the left mouse button. The “Test” button plays the current selected segment, while the “Play” button plays the whole session. Press the “Test” button to play the Music segment. SHARM creates pure ambient music patterns from the music sound file. To select another music file, press the “Select File” button. SHARM includes 15 built-in music sound files. You can purchase two additional Music libraries with 96 music sound files. Select a music file and press the “Open” button. Press the “Test” button to play the new Music segment.
Nature
To add nature sounds to your session, create a new Nature segment.
Press the “Select File” button. SHARM includes 10 built-in nature sound files. You can purchase an additional Nature library with 30 nature sound files. Select a nature file and press the “Open” button. Press the “Test” button to play the new Nature segment. Press the “Play” button to play the session with both Music and Nature segments.
Segment Properties
Each segment has its own properties that you can set and change.
The top segment properties are common to all soundtracks. The bottom segment properties are different for each soundtrack. To add bird sounds, click on the Nature segment and enable the Bird Voices option.
Working with Segments
Draw a few more Music and Nature segments.
To delete a segment, click on the segment and press the “Delete” button on the top toolbar, or press the “Delete” button on the keyboard. To change the position of a segment, select the segment with the left mouse button and drag it to the new location. Drag a segment’s edge to change the size of a segment. SHARM displays the dimensions of the current segment in the top properties area. You can also edit the segment dimensions directly.
Suggestions
To add recorded suggestions to your session, create a Suggestions segment.
Press the “Add” button to add recorded suggestions. Double-click a folder name to select a suggestions folder. To select multiple suggestions, hold the “Shift” or “Control” key while clicking on a suggestion name. Press the “Open” button to add the selected suggestions You can add more suggestions from different folders. Set the average gap between the recorded suggestions. Press the “Test” button to play the new Suggestions segment. You can record your own suggestions with the sound recorder. Press the “Play” button to listen to the session. While SHARM plays the session, you can skip to any location in the session by clicking with the left mouse button anywhere on the working area. Set the final length of the session.
