SHARM Tutorial: Sound Recorder
Please wait a few seconds for the video to start displaying This SHARM tutorial explains how to use the Sound Recorder to record scripts and suggestions in your sessions.
Recording a sound file
Press the “Sound Recorder” button on the top toolbar.
Select a file name for your recording. If the file name you entered exists, press “Yes” to replace the file. The top graph continuously displays the microphone signal. To avoid distortions of the recorded voice, make sure that the recording level is not too high. The second graph displays the microphone signal during the last fifteen seconds. Press the "Record" button to start recording. The Sound Recorder starts to record. The elapsed time is displayed during the recording. Press the "Pause" button if you want to take a break from recording. Press the "Record" button again to resume recording. Press the “Stop” button to finish recording. Press the “Play” button to listen to the recorded file.
Reverb sliders
You can add a reverberation effect before or during the recording.
The Reverb effect in the Sound Recorder is similar to the Reverb effect in the segment properties. In general it is best to record your script or suggestions without reverberation. Add this effect later in the segment properties. You can use the real-time Reverb effect when recording a session with your client. To create a deepening effect, increase reverberation while recording the script.
File size and free disk space
The Sound Recorder displays file size and disk space information during the recording. Make sure you have enough free disk space.
Close the Recorder window.
Recording an External segment
Draw an External segment.
Select the name of the recorded file. SHARM keeps the name of the recorded file in the External segment. If you want to record the script again, you will not have to reselect the name of the recorded file. A quicker way to include a script in your session is to draw an External segment first and then record the script of this segment.
Recording file formats
You can set the recording file format before starting the Sound Recorder.
Press the “Sound Properties” button on the top toolbar. Set the recording file format. You can record your scripts in MP3 format and generate the session to a sound file in WAV format.
